Apparently shocked by the fast adoption of Apple Pay, Google wants to revive its payment product Wallet. The Wall Street Journal reports this on the basis of insiders.

Google would suddenly start conversations again with telecom providers, banks and mobile phone manufacturers. The new Wallet would be launched in May.

Google did not get a foothold in the telecom providers, because they had developed their own Softcard system (formerly Isis). However, that has not been successful. Google Wallet is still used, but mainly in the US.

At Samsung, Google does not have to knock on the door. Last week it was announced that Samsung purchased LoopPay. This technology has the advantage that it also works with smartphones without an NFC chip. Apple Pay does not work without it.
