German T-Systems has signed a cooperation agreement with Akamai, the supplier of content delivery networks (CDN), to expand and improve its IP-VPN services for large business customers.

Within the IP-VPN portfolio of T-Systems, the Akamai Cloud Networking Internet Optimization capabilities are used to improve the performance of Internet IP VPN traffic of customers. The Akamai technology chooses the best routes over the internet for data traffic.

T-Systems aims at large business customers with many branches that do not have access to connections via high-quality digital networks for voice and data (MPLS, Multiprotocol Label Switching).

Deutsche Telekom already placed its business telecom services in a separate business unit earlier this year. The partnership with Akamai is part of this strategy.

The new service will be available from the beginning of 2016. Customers with existing IP VPN contracts can receive the new service as a supplement to their current contract.
