The Publieke Omroep (NPO) publishes a new app that monitors during TV viewing. In this way, the user receives information from his / her screen that matches the TV program he is watching.

Tomorrow afternoon, the NPO will present its new app in Hilversum, but the information about the design and operation has been clear since the beginning of this week. Builder Stoneroos from Hilversum explains on his site in detail how he works. Civolution, the Eindhoven supplier of 'listening technology', reports that the app can already be downloaded.

The technology is a novelty on the Dutch market. If someone has the app open while watching TV, he hears an inaudible broadcast signal. That is linked to the timestamp. Based on that information, it is known what someone is looking at and contextually relevant information can be loaded.

Situational types of information include enriched EPG data, second screen applications, websites of the programs and associated social media, related on-demand content and information about the (next) program.

In addition, Ster Extra, Ster's advertising app, is included in the NPO app. This enables the viewer to also take on commercials interactively.

The mobile ear of the NPO can handle the public channels one, two and three.
