Rotterdam, November 27, 2013 - Cloud provider CloudVPS announces a new service: CloudVPS Compute, the first OpenStack based public cloud in the Netherlands. With CloudVPS Compute, companies can easily manage and create large networks of Windows and Linux virtual servers. To simplify management even further, CloudVPS developed its own interface for the end user.
Compute is the service for managing virtual machines within the open source cloud platform OpenStack. CloudVPS already offered an Object Store, the OpenStack service for unlimited scalable cloud storage, but will now also deliver an OpenStack version of Compute.
"The Compute virtual server platform can be used for a wide variety of purposes and user groups: service providers, IT departments, software developers and in fact anyone who needs easily scalable resources, " says Lennard Zwart, CEO of CloudVPS. "It is the first OpenStack-based public cloud in the Netherlands, where the customer only pays for actually used resources. It is also easy to upload and start up your own images. The solution features enterprise class storage technology that ensures that all data is stored on three different active storage machines. "
Wanted: beta testers
To test the new service and the new interface, CloudVPS is looking for beta testers. These testers can use CloudVPS Compute until at least January 10, 2013. Beta testers can also have a CloudVPS Object Store account for free. The company prefers to see users who want to use new functionalities such as the API, uploading images and the object store. Interested parties can register via this page.
"OpenStack is a fast growing collection of open source cloud projects with which a cloud infrastructure can be built. The project has a huge momentum and is supported by big names such as HP, Cisco, Red Hat, Canonical (Ubuntu) and VMware. By using OpenStack CloudVPS will be able to roll out new cloud services at lightning speed. Another advantage is that you are certain that there are no backdoors from foreign government departments because OpenStack is an open source system, "says Zwart.
Another advantage of an OpenStack cloud is that all services can be controlled directly with an application programming interface (API). This allows OpenStack clouds to communicate easily with each other and software programs can appeal to the necessary cloud resources without human intervention. Cloud parties such as HP and Rackspace use the same API, so everything a developer writes for OpenStack can also be used on those platforms.
OpenStack itself has a web interface called Horizon. This was primarily developed for private clouds and can also be improved graphically: "Compute's standard interface is not very suitable for a public cloud, " says Zwart. "We have put our software engineers to work to build an interface that is accessible and understandable for everyone. The result is exactly what we had hoped for: an intuitive, elegant operation with a simple, graphic look. I think that users will be happy with the ease with which they can now manage their cloud. Because this interface replaces the existing OpenStack Horizon we have chosen the related name Skyline. "

CloudVPS is leading the way in the cloud area in the Netherlands. The company was founded in 2006 by a group of pioneers who wanted to make software to easily manage clusters of servers. The self-developed software proved to be extremely suitable for offering cloud services and CloudVPS now serves an impressive list of companies from a network that is spread over three A-class data centers. CloudVPS has a large public cloud where flexible capacity can be purchased. In addition, the company has implemented a large number of private clouds and customized clusters. CloudVPS is at the forefront of cloud-related certification and open source cloud techniques such as OpenStack.
Despite the success achieved, the people at CloudVPS do not rest on their laurels. Lennard Zwart, CEO of CloudVPS, has set himself the mission to make the public cloud the basis of every IT infrastructure. Cloud computing can be just as safe as the server in your own cellar and because CloudVPS follows strict privacy guidelines, data will never be shared with third parties.
