Kweekvlees, the future of printing and computer brain interfaces are among the breakthrough technologies of the Netherlands. They present the list of the 10 Dutch breakthrough technologies that StartupDelta presented at CES Unveiled Amsterdam yesterday. The list is compiled by StartupDelta based on input from all regional innovation hubs in the Netherlands.
The technologies have in common that their influence on our lives can potentially be enormous and that the Netherlands has a relative advantage in the world in these technologies. For each technology startups are mentioned that have come from the university around this technology.
Anne-Wil Lucas, Breakthrough Technologies' director at StartupDelta, is proud of the list: "The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) brings out such a top10 in America every year. In the Dutch universities at least as many interesting things happen, but in one way or another we do not always get enough of the spotlight. With this list we hope to start a new tradition, in which we put scientists and the spinoffs that are busy with breakthrough technology in the spotlight. "
Dutch universities are the driving force behind many impactful innovations. Sometimes in collaboration with the existing business community, but fortunately also increasingly via new startups that originate from the university. Anne-Wil Lucas: "We hope that this trend will continue. Scientists who choose to become entrepreneurs or spend a lot of time on marketing their research are not always valued in the academic world. With this list we want to show how important it is that this does happen. "
All regional innovation hubs have given input for the list. This led to a long list of 26 technologies. From that longlist, an editorial board of scientists and investors finally chose the top10. The focus here was on the potential impact of technology on society, the lead that the Netherlands has around that technology and whether significant steps towards market introduction have been taken in 2018.
