Involvit builds information portal for U Centraal

How can we develop an information portal about housing, welfare and care in Utrecht where both the professional, the volunteer and the informal carer can find what he is looking for? And how can we build a website and intranet with which we present and connect the new welfare organization U Centraal? That was the assignment that Involvit received in June 2013, after a selection process in which six parties participated.

There was little time: at the start of the organization on 1 August 2013, a rudimentary version of the whole had to be live. That has succeeded. In September and October a second release was made in three sprints.

The practical approach, the idea to spy websites and the great enthusiasm of the Involvit team were reasons for U Centraal to choose Involvit.

The process of the tender, which was supervised by RZadvies, can be called innovative. On 12 June, several providers, including Involvit, presented their solution to the project group and on 20 June the proposal was formalized and the kick-off could be held on the same day.

The portal that has been built includes a care desk with a Social Card. It offers visitors the opportunity to find tailor-made information on various levels, from occasional user to professional, in the areas of Care, Welfare and Housing. This information concerns local information about legislation and regulations, facilities and activities offered in and around the city of Utrecht. But also information from various national sources such as the tax authorities. For U Centraal, this layering is very important, because visitors can search internally and externally with one search at a time.

The portal 'U Gids' will be the platform for Housing, Care and Welfare in Utrecht and is especially strong in connection with the themes. The U Central portal is a referring and informative digital environment where the customer is central. The digital information is aimed at professionals, volunteers and residents. The goal is to increase the reachability of the target groups where the desired portal is one of the channels. Because of the target group of U Centraal (including low-literate people), it is not necessarily the intention that U Gids will replace all calls and visits. However, the Guide makes people more self-reliant because all information is in one place and accessible in different ways.

Involvit built the portal, (www.ugids.nl) the internet site (www.u-centraal.nl) and the intranet environments based on the Umbraco Content Management System. This responds to the specific requirements set for the built sites for functionality and usability of websites. Involvit has of course also ensured an effective mobile access to the information from its specific expertise in the field of mobile websites. An important role in the portal is provided by Xuntos' faceted search module 'XFS'. With this application, which is fully integrated in the Umbraco CMS, the search functionality demanded by U Central can be filled in very well.

The project was set up in close collaboration with the U Central organization on the basis of Agile project methodologies. With this knowledge and experience of both parties is optimally used for an effective and functional information provision on the new portal. This resulted in the three mentioned websites including the mobile variants being ready in a first release on 1 August. In September and October, a release 2 version was made in three sprints.
