Advertisers took affiliate marketing in 2013 somewhat to the left and sought other performance channels. The latest spending figures from the IAB show that spending in affiliate marketing fell by 2.1 percent in 2013.

The annual adspend report shows this year that advertisers spent 191 million euros in affiliate marketing in 2013. That is 2.1 percent less than in 2012.

The decrease is attributed to a large extent to the impact of the cookie law and spending by health insurers at the end of 2013. The figures for 2014 will have to indicate whether this concerns 'seasonal influences' or whether there is a permanent decrease.

The only other segment that also had a decline is the category advertisements. There, spending fell by four million to 191 million euros.

In 2013, advertisers spent 1.3 billion euros in the Netherlands on search, display and classifieds channels.
