Leiden newspaper archive has to be partially locked

The municipality of Leiden has to put a part of the online archive of more than 750, 000 (regional) newspaper pages on black. The court in The Hague determined this in a procedure initiated by Stichting Lira and Pictoright against the archive of Erfgoed Leiden (formerly the Leiden Regional Archive). Lira and Pictoright started the procedure (pdf) in 2013, after two years of negotiations between the parties did not work out

The court in The Hague determined this in a procedure initiated by Stichting Lira and Pictoright against the archive of Erfgoed Leiden (formerly the Leiden Regional Archive).

Lira and Pictoright started the procedure (pdf) in 2013, after two years of negotiations between the parties did not work out. Both the archive and the municipality of Leiden (of which the archive is part) were not prepared to make a collective arrangement with Lira and Pictoright, organizations representing freelance journalists and image-makers.

Lira and Pictoright find a collective scheme by far the most practical and efficient way to enable large-scale digitization projects.
