The number of PostNL parcel points will grow from 300 to 3, 000 in the coming years. The shipper wants to acquire more positions at busy retail locations, as it now also has with Gamma and Karwei.

That's what a spokeswoman told Emerce in response to yesterday's news that PostNL wants to close sixty percent of its service points. A new law must first be adopted for this. The number of service points will then be reduced from 2, 500 to just over 1, 000.

Consumers have started sending less letter mail in recent years, but due to the rise of e-commerce, the number of package shipments has actually increased. That is what the postal company wants to provide better. Therefore, the number of packet points will be increased tenfold.

At the start of this year, 300 Intergamma stores, including Gamma and Karwei, became part of PostNL's logistics network. Shoppers can pick up packages there and bring them for shipment. The postal company intends to conclude more of this type of agreements with retail chains in order to be able to better meet the online shopping consumer's logistical needs.

Retailers benefit from this construction in the fact that they can expect more traffic in their stores and more spontaneous purchases.

Whether and with which chains this is discussed, the spokesperson could not indicate.

Last month it became known that PostNL is taking the first experimental steps in the field of same day deliveries and the delivery of fresh produce.
