Consumers have paid too much for years for TVs and computer monitors due to prohibited price agreements. The manufacturers in question received a substantial fine of almost 1.5 billion euros from the European Commission. This fine was confirmed by the European Court of Justice, leaving the way open for a compensation scheme for injured consumers.

The Consumers' Association started an action in January 2016 together with claim organization ConsumentenClaim to get fair compensation for consumers and discussed this with Philips. Philips only wants to compensate the damage caused by them, and not pay for damage caused by other members of the cartel.

Consumers who bought a CRT or computer screen between 1996 and 2006 and who want to be considered for compensation, are called upon to take part in the Image Tube claim action.
