Utrecht, 1 November 201 7 - Telindus research among 266 IT decision makers shows that organizations are going to outsource more and more in the area of IT security over the next three years. Currently, 16 percent of IT decision makers allocate IT security to a large extent or completely, it is expected that this will be 46 percent in three years. Particularly in the care, industry and government sectors, more and more will be outsourced. The main reasons at the moment not to opt for outsourcing are retaining the complete control (33%), the (privacy) sensitivity of data (32%) and high costs (20%). Only 18 percent indicate that they have a strong security team in-house.

RansomwareThe IT decision makers were also asked what measures they have taken to prepare for the effects of a ransomware attack. 70 percent said they had a backup available, 49 percent said the backup was redundant and 41 percent said they had a clear script. Only 16 percent indicate that they are not or insufficiently prepared.

Geert Degezelle, Managing Director at Telindus, comments: "Organizations are under increasing pressure to implement and monitor an end-to-end security strategy. Certainly also in view of the GDPR coming into force next year. In practice, it appears that professional security management is not feasible for most people to fill in themselves within the available budget and with a shortage of security specialists. The business case for outsourcing IT security is in many cases more favorable than keeping it in house. It has become almost impossible to take on a specialized security team that is optimally trained, is available 24/7 and does everything that a Security Operations Center (SOC) does. Outsourcing IT security is therefore a logical step for more and more organizations. "
